Fun-fetti Surprise Birthday Cake

Yahoo! It’s my husband’s birthday. He hates any mention of his birthday and refuses any presents or activities. He’d prefer to act like it’s any other day of the year – only he also requires a cake. And specifically, he requires a fun-fetti cake. Thus far in our relationship, I’ve just followed the instructions on a pilsbury box and called it good. This year I decided to try a recipe my friend Megan had sent me when we were brainstorming for theย Great Birthday Bake Offย that had stuck in my head.

This is the first recipe I’ve used from “My Name is Yeh” but I certainly wasn’t disappointed. Her instructions were super clear. Her cake was super cute. And! It was tasty. The frosting was a bit sweet even for me and the cake was sweet enough that if I do this one again, I think I’ll leave it almost naked. My husband is baseball-obsessed so rather than making a pony on top, I used one of the rounds cut out from the center of the cake to make a li’l baseball. My decorating/piping skills definitely still need some work ๐Ÿ˜›

I didn’t have enough M&Ms to fill up the center so I used some of the remaining sprinkles from the cake to fill it up the rest of the way. I loved how festive it looked when we cut in! This will definitely not be my last surprise-inside cake!
